Cloudflare releases Void: control your employees' vibe-coding apps
Cloudflare open sources Void, a platform to manage applications created by employees with AI. A solution to the shadow IT that worries IT teams.

The vibe-coding trend —employees without a technical profile creating their own applications with AI assistance— is gaining ground in companies like Ramp or Stripe, according to Gergely Orosz. But this freedom also creates a headache for IT departments: who controls those applications? What data do they access? Who guarantees their security? In practice, it's the new shadow IT, and Cloudflare wants to bring order with Void, a set of open source tools that includes a self-hosted platform to deploy and manage these applications.
What Void is and why it matters
Void consists of three pieces. The Void SDK provides the building blocks to create full-stack applications with Vite, including server functionality and database integrations. The Void CLI manages deployment and automatically provisions the necessary resources on Cloudflare. And the Void Platform offers a shared environment where companies can host applications and manage them through a control panel. The complete code, including the platform, has been released under the MIT license, although the SDK and CLI were already available on npm.
The story of Void is linked to Cloudflare's acquisition of VoidZero in June. Evan You, creator of Vue.js and Vite, founded VoidZero with the mission of unifying JavaScript tools. Void was born as a commercial deployment service for Vite applications, but after the purchase, Cloudflare decided to release it. "We started working on Void before the acquisition, originally intended as a commercial product. But now we no longer need it, so we've made it open source," You explained on X. Michael Dong, strategy at Cloudflare, adds that they rebuilt the platform from scratch so anyone can self-host it on their Cloudflare account.

Implications for SMEs and IT teams
For an SME, vibe-coding can be an opportunity for non-technical profiles to solve specific needs without depending on the development team. However, it also opens the door to risks: unreviewed applications that access sensitive data, lack of access control, or deployments on unauthorized services. Void offers a framework to channel that creativity: employees publish their applications in a controlled environment, and administrators decide who can deploy and access. This reduces shadow IT and facilitates oversight.
However, the tool is not a silver bullet. It requires the IT team to configure and maintain the self-hosted platform, which involves some effort. Additionally, being based on Vite and Cloudflare, it may not fit environments with other technologies. Still, it's an interesting step towards the governance of AI-generated applications.
Recommendations for the IT team
- Assess the need: are there employees creating apps on their own? If so, Void can be a way to give them a secure channel.
- Test in a controlled environment: install Void on a test Cloudflare account and analyze its integration with your systems.
- Define policies: establish who can deploy, what data can be used, and how applications are audited.
- Train users: providing tools is not enough; awareness about security and best practices is necessary.
- Consider alternatives: if it doesn't fit, there are other low-code platforms with integrated governance.
At ForgeNEX we believe that initiatives like Void are relevant for SMEs that want to innovate without losing control. The key is to balance the agility that AI brings with security and compliance. If you are considering adopting vibe-coding in your organization, we can help you design a strategy that doesn't compromise your data.
