In this context, Palo Alto Networks has taken a strategic step that could redefine the rules of the game: the acquisition of Console, a startup specializing in AI-based IT service management and automation. But what does this purchase really imply? Is it just another acquisition in the company's extensive history, or are we witnessing a paradigm shift in how we understand security?
To understand the significance of the deal, it is worth analyzing what Console brings to Palo Alto's ecosystem. According to initial official statements, Console's technology will be integrated into Cortex, the company's security operations platform, with the aim of expanding its agent-based AI capabilities. This will allow security teams not only to investigate alerts more efficiently but also to prioritize tasks and automate actions across all their network environments, from hybrid cloud to traditional endpoints.

Console's value proposition is, at the very least, intriguing. Its technology connects directly to the client's identity systems, SaaS applications, security tools, and other critical systems. Once that connection is established, its AI agents are capable of understanding a request in natural language, gathering the necessary context from multiple sources, executing a complete workflow, and documenting everything that has occurred. In other words, it eliminates the friction between human intent and technical execution, a problem that has hampered the productivity of security operations centers (SOCs) for years.
Andrei Serban, CEO and co-founder of Console, put it clearly in a statement: “We created Console with a simple idea in mind: people should be able to express an operational goal, and intelligent software should manage the complexity required to achieve it.” This philosophy, which some already call the transition from traditional software to 'software as an agent', finds in Palo Alto Networks a perfect ally to scale. In fact, Nikesh Arora, chairman and CEO of Palo Alto Networks, did not hesitate to state that with Console, their customers will be able to “interact directly with data and create agent-based workflows in natural language that help alert and resolve issues automatically.” A statement of intent that points directly to the autonomy of security systems.
