Magellan lands in Spain with a comprehensive offering: consulting, technology, and digital sovereignty for businesses

Grupo Magellan has begun its journey in Spain with the acquisition of MeTS, a move that marks the start of an ambitious strategy to become a global technology partner capable of accompanying public and private organizations at every stage of their digital transformation. From strategic consulting and the design of sovereign digital solutions to implementation, deployment, and operation, the company promises to cover the entire value chain. Bruno Urquiza, general manager for Spain, explains to ComputerWorld that our country “is an important market in Europe, with a strong economy today and is investing heavily in digital transformation across all sectors: banking and others.”

An expanding presence

After the acquisition of MeTS, Magellan already has a presence in 13 countries, 10 of them in Europe. In Spain, the company has established four strategic operations centers — Madrid, Barcelona, Córdoba, and Cáceres — a team of 580 professionals, and aims to generate 50 million euros in revenue by 2026. These figures reflect the group's confidence in the potential of the Spanish market and its commitment to local growth.

Way of working: business and technology hand in hand

“Magellan is a business consultancy and also a technology consultancy. We have experts and consultants who work together on projects,” says Urquiza. On the business side, they help define organizations and initiate processes; on the technology side, they implement leading platforms such as Salesforce or Microsoft. Added to this is the added value of MeTS, which develops critical sovereign solutions with 24/7 high availability. “We bring the entire end-to-end value chain to the European and Spanish market,” he emphasizes.

This integration allows Magellan to offer a complete service ranging from strategic definition to technology operations, something that, according to Urquiza, sets them apart from other market players. “We operate on our infrastructures or the client's. That is also what's new,” he adds.

A single player for business transformation

When asked why an organization should choose Grupo Magellan as a partner, Urquiza responds without hesitation: “We offer a single player for a transformation project.” Added to this is the ability to operate in the real business environment, with a strong emphasis on digital sovereignty. “Organizations are changing their strategy and trying to host critical data and solutions in European sovereign infrastructures. That is something we offer,” he explains.

Business knowledge is another fundamental pillar. “We have 1,300 business consultants and 5,400 technology experts who work together on projects. That is a guarantee for delivering value to the client,” says Urquiza.

Ambitious but realistic business plans

The group has set itself the goal of doubling its activity in five years, a target that Urquiza describes as “ambitious but realistic.” To achieve this, the company is betting on two paths: organic growth, through the hiring of experts and consultants, and strategic acquisitions in Spain, in areas complementary to MeTS. “Technology activities, Microsoft integrators, or also business consulting. That is the goal in Spain and that is what I will lead over the next five years,” he details.

Positioning in Spain: differentiating factors

To compete with already established international and local players, Magellan bets on its ability to integrate business and technology. “We have business consultants and technology experts. Both understand their areas well and work together. But the important thing is to develop a solution by understanding the business. If you don't do that, there will be no adoption,” explains Urquiza.

Another key factor is the complete offering, from strategy to sovereign infrastructure operation. “Clients want to host solutions and data securely, seeking independence from large providers. We can respond to those challenges, and we also bring sector knowledge: we are experts in energy and banking,” he adds.

The integration of artificial intelligence is also a differentiating element. “We have been training all consultants for over two years to use AI in their daily work: in methodology, architecture design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment. That brings direct benefits to the client. Additionally, we integrate AI into our own solutions,” says Urquiza.

AI development in Spain

Urquiza observes a “strong demand” for AI in Spain. “For example, we have accompanied two large retail groups in deploying Microsoft Copilot,” he comments. The technical implementation is simple, but the value lies in helping clients adapt the solution to real use. “Clients ask us to help them define use cases. AI is not going to replace a business process, but rather modernize it and make it more efficient,” he explains.

The group integrates AI in all phases of projects, which allows accelerating digital transformation. “Clients have three- to five-year programs. If they can accelerate that process, offer solutions more quickly, or launch more projects, that is very important for a CIO,” he concludes.

Focus technologies: Salesforce, Microsoft, and more

Magellan will focus on technologies where it already has a leadership position, such as Salesforce and Microsoft. “In France we are leaders in Salesforce. We understand the manufacturer's needs very well,” says Urquiza. In Microsoft, they have more than 700 experts in cloud Azure, data, and cybersecurity. In the short term, they will also develop capabilities in SAP and ServiceNow, leveraging their digital competence center in Spain, with about 200 people specialized in Java, web, and mobile applications.

The role of talent and cybersecurity

Talent acquisition is a priority. Magellan is strengthening its centers in Madrid, Barcelona, Córdoba, and Cáceres, and uses an internal referral program that generates 40% of new hires. “It is key to take care of well-being, training, including AI, and the work environment,” emphasizes Urquiza. Additionally, cybersecurity is a strategic area: “We help define security strategies, risk management plans, and also intervene in crises. But the most important thing is to work beforehand: help, advise, and conduct intermediate assessments,” he concludes.

For companies seeking a comprehensive partner on their digital journey, Magellan presents itself as a solid option, combining consulting, technology, and digital sovereignty. Its end-to-end approach, along with its commitment to AI and cybersecurity, promises to make a difference in the Spanish market.
