Magellan Group: The Consultancy That Promises to Cover the Entire Digital Value Chain, from Strategy to Sovereign Operations

Magellan Group has firmly set foot in Spain with the acquisition of MeTS, and its goal is clear: to become a comprehensive partner that accompanies companies and public administrations at every step of their digital transformation. Bruno Urquiza, general director for Spain, sums it up: "We cover everything from strategic definition to technological operations." In an exclusive interview with ComputerWorld, Urquiza details how the company aims to differentiate itself in a market dominated by large consultancies and local players.

An End-to-End Offering Based on Consulting, Technology, and Digital Sovereignty

Magellan Group is not your typical consultancy. Its value proposition rests on three pillars: business consulting, leading platform technology (Salesforce, Microsoft, SAP, ServiceNow), and, thanks to MeTS, the development of critical sovereign solutions with high 24/7 availability. "We bring the entire end-to-end value chain to the European and Spanish market," says Urquiza. This means a company can come to Magellan to define its strategy, redesign processes, implement platforms, develop custom software, and even operate the infrastructure, whether in its own centers or the client's.

Digital sovereignty is a key concept in this offering. "Organizations are changing their strategy and trying to host critical data and solutions in European sovereign infrastructures," explains Urquiza. Magellan responds to this demand by offering its own or client-owned infrastructures, ensuring data control. Presence in Spain: 580 Professionals and Ambition of 50 Million by 2026

After the acquisition of MeTS, Magellan now has 13 countries in its portfolio, 10 of them in Europe. In Spain, the company has established four strategic operations centers: Madrid, Barcelona, Córdoba, and Cáceres, with a team of 580 professionals. Its financial goal is to reach 50 million euros in revenue by 2026, a target Urquiza describes as "ambitious but realistic."

The Differentiating Factor: Business Consultants and Technology Experts Working Together

One of Magellan's strongest selling points is the integration between business consultants and technology experts. "We have 1,300 business consultants and 5,400 technology experts working together on projects," Urquiza details. This synergy avoids the classic mismatch between what the business needs and what technology can offer. "If you design a process without understanding the technologies or platforms, it doesn't work," he warns.

Additionally, the company bets on artificial intelligence as an accelerator. "We have been training all consultants for over two years to use AI in their daily work: methodology, architecture design, development, testing, documentation, and deployment," he notes. This not only improves internal efficiency but translates into direct benefits for the client. AI is also integrated into Magellan's own solutions, such as its intelligent contact center.

Growth Plans: Organic and Through Acquisitions

Magellan Group aims to double its activity in five years, combining two strategies. On one hand, organic growth by hiring talent and developing the business. On the other, acquisitions in Spain focused on activities complementary to MeTS, such as Microsoft integrators or business consulting. "That is the goal in Spain, and that is what I will lead over the next five years," says Urquiza.

In terms of sectors, the company will focus on banking, energy, retail, and the public sector, where it already has experience and success stories. In banking, for example, they work on consumer credit systems and loyalty programs; in energy, they have strong activity; and in retail, several references.

Talent: Internal Referral as a Driver

To attract and retain talent, Magellan relies on its internal referral program, which already generates 40% of new hires. "It is key to take care of well-being, training, including AI, and the work environment," explains Urquiza. Additionally, the breadth of its offering (business consulting, multiple platforms, infrastructure, cybersecurity) helps attract diverse profiles. Cybersecurity, in fact, is an expanding area, with services ranging from strategy definition to incident response. Focus Technologies: Salesforce, Microsoft, and SAP as Priorities

On the technological front, Magellan will emphasize Salesforce, Microsoft, and SAP. "In France, we are leaders in Salesforce," recalls Urquiza, who developed that practice from scratch to become a reference. In Microsoft, they have over 700 experts in cloud Azure, data, and cybersecurity. And in SAP, they also have consolidated capabilities. "Among the 600 employees in Spain, we have a digital competence center with about 200 people expert in Java, web, and mobile development, to which we want to add more capabilities in these platforms," he adds.

AI: The Great Accelerator of Digital Transformation

Urquiza observes strong demand for AI in Spain, but also a lack of clarity on use cases. "Clients ask us to help define use cases, because saying 'let's use artificial intelligence' implies asking: for what?" he explains. Magellan helps fit the technology with existing business processes, modernizing them and making them more efficient. "Integrating AI into all phases of a project allows accelerating digital transformation programs, which typically last three to five years. Reducing that time is key for a CIO," he concludes.

Magellan Group arrives in Spain with a proposal that, according to its general director, is "unique" in the market: a single player covering the entire value chain, from strategy to operations, with a strong emphasis on digital sovereignty and artificial intelligence. The challenge now is to prove that this formula, which already works in France, the UK, and Germany, can also succeed in the Spanish market.
