The demand for technological infrastructure for artificial intelligence and cloud computing shows no signs of slowing down. In a strategic move to anticipate market needs, Vodafone Spain has closed a collaboration agreement with Dell Technologies with a five-year term. The objective is clear: to expand the operator's data center capacity in Spanish territory and offer businesses and public administrations a robust, scalable, and efficient platform to support data-intensive workloads.

Infrastructure as a Service: The Dell APEX Model as a Pillar

The initiative is based on Dell APEX Infrastructure, Dell Technologies' infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) offering. This model allows Vodafone to consume compute, storage, and cloud resources under a pay-per-use scheme, eliminating the need for large upfront investments and providing key flexibility in an environment where demand can fluctuate rapidly. According to a joint statement from both companies, this approach will enable Vodafone to adapt its data center capacity to real demand, reducing initial investment and accelerating the deployment of new services.

This type of consumption model is becoming an unstoppable trend in the sector, as we analyzed in our article on why cheaper models won't save your AI budget, where we highlight the importance of flexible and scalable planning.

More Capacity for AI, Cloud, and Edge Computing

The expansion includes a significant increase in the storage and processing capacity of Vodafone Spain's data centers. The goal is to offer higher levels of performance and scalability to businesses and public organizations operating on infrastructure hosted in Spain. This move responds to the growing adoption of artificial intelligence solutions, data analytics, and cloud applications, which are driving new storage and processing capacity needs.

Vodafone and Dell argue that the new infrastructure will enable faster deployment of data-intensive workloads and facilitate the development of business initiatives related to AI and cloud-native applications. Additionally, Dell highlights that the incorporated solutions will help improve the energy efficiency of data centers, aligning with Vodafone Spain's sustainability goals. In this regard, energy efficiency is a critical factor, as addressed in our success story on digital transformation in a logistics company, where resource optimization was key.

Comprehensive Lifecycle Management and Support

As part of the agreement, Dell Technologies will assume lifecycle management of the deployed infrastructure, including hardware and software maintenance, monitoring, and updates. The company will also provide support through service level agreements (SLAs) aimed at ensuring availability, security, and operational continuity. This comprehensive management approach is similar to that applied in environments of real estate software with integrated property portfolio and public portal, where integration and continuous maintenance are essential.

Statements from the Protagonists

Carlos Becker, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Vodafone Business, described the initiative as "a key milestone to reinforce Spain's digital backbone. By expanding our data center capacity through a flexible consumption-based model, we ensure that Spanish businesses and public institutions have the secure, high-performance infrastructure they need to innovate and grow."

For her part, Isabel Reis, General Manager for Iberia at Dell Technologies, stated that "by providing scalable and energy-efficient infrastructure, hosted in Vodafone's data centers and managed through a flexible model, we enable Vodafone to respond quickly to local demand and offer cloud services to its customers."

Impact for Vodafone Business Customers

The project will translate for Vodafone Business customers into greater storage and processing capacity, faster response times, and the ability to scale digital initiatives on infrastructure hosted and managed in Spain. This scalability is essential in a context where AI and cloud are redefining the boundaries of business innovation, as explored in our analysis on how 90s system design drives today's AI and supercomputing.
